LITIGATION & ARBITRATION COUNSEL

Kai Qing is a civil and commercial litigator who advises and represents private and corporate clients in a wide range of complex disputes across various sectors and jurisdictions. She frequently appears as lead counsel in hearings before the Singapore High Court and has successfully obtained orders for summary judgment and specific discovery, amongst others. Her expertise extends to international commercial arbitration, where she represents clients in high-stakes matters administered by the SIAC and other global arbitration bodies. She also acts for the Singapore Medical Council, the Law Society of Singapore and the Council for Estate Agencies in disciplinary inquiries.

Some of her notable cases include representation of :-

  • A renowned South Korean gaming powerhouse – the developer and distributor of an internationally acclaimed and award-winning battle royale game – in a SIAC arbitration against a competing technology conglomerate in relation to an intellectual property rights dispute.
  • A Cayman Islands entity in Singapore High Court proceedings to recover over USD 8 million held by a British Virgin Islands (BVI) corporation in a Singapore bank account, controlled by a Singapore-registered fund management company arising from an aborted investment into a now-deregistered BVI corporation.
  • A leading South Korean pharmaceutical company listed on the KOSDAQ, which specialises in researching and developing innovative new drugs for various diseases, in a SIAC arbitration involving a claim of more than SGD 50 million.
  • A prominent South Korean businessman and founder of a global cryptocurrency exchange in a multi-jurisdictional dispute in the Singapore High Court against a major Singapore-listed South Korean entertainment company, involving issues of New York, Hong Kong, South Korea and Singapore law. The claim was in excess of USD 110 million.
  • A prospective white-knight power and water project developer based in the UAE, in its efforts to stave off the liquidation of a major Singapore water treatment group which had been placed under judicial management, where the total claims of the group’s creditors amounted to nearly SGD 3 billion.
  • A mother and her child in their multi-million dollar claim for medical negligence against the National University Hospital and its senior consultant in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, which was subsequently settled on confidential terms.
  • The Law Society of Singapore in disciplinary proceedings before the Disciplinary Tribunal and the Court of Three Judges against a solicitor who was found to have failed to exercise diligence and competence in his handling of his clients’ cases, which resulted in his clients’ lawsuits being struck out without their knowledge, amongst other things. The solicitor was eventually struck off the rolls by the Court of Three Judges.

While pursuing her law degree at Singapore Management University (SMU), Kai Qing actively participated in various mooting competitions, such as the Asean Law Students Association Moot and the WongPartnership International Arbitration Moot. Outside of her academic pursuits, she served as Vice-President of the SMU Women’s Football Team and was part of the Executive Committee of the SMU Law Outreach Club.

Kai Qing is a member of the Singapore Academy of Law and the Law Society of Singapore.
