LITIGATION & ARBITRATION COUNSEL | ARBITRATOR | MEDIATOR
Rengarajoo joined us as a Senior Consultant in 2025, bringing over four decades of experience in legal practice and public service. He has been in active legal practice since 1983, following an earlier career as an Assistant Superintendent of Police in the Singapore Police Force.
Rengarajoo began his legal career as a litigator, founding and managing his own firm, M/s B. Rengarajoo & Associates. His practice spans a wide range of contract-based civil and commercial matters, including international trade, carriage of goods by sea, negotiable instruments, and insurance. He has also acted as counsel in major tort claims and serious criminal defence matters, including capital cases. Several of his cases have resulted in landmark decisions cited in law reports and legal texts.
Today, Rengarajoo focuses mainly on Alternative Dispute Resolution, particularly international commercial arbitration and mediation. He has acted as both counsel and arbitrator in numerous domestic and international arbitrations, across both ad hoc and institutional settings. He is empanelled as an arbitrator with the SIAC, AIAC, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), and the Singapore Law Society Arbitration Scheme, among others. When assessed for Chartered Arbitrator status, a panel of CIArb interviewers (all Chartered Arbitrators themselves) remarked:
“The panel is impressed by the candidate, his knowledge and experience. We are confident that as an arbitrator he would perform excellently and bring nothing but honour to this Institute.”
As a Certified Mediator under both the IMI and SIMI, and a Principal Mediator with the Singapore Mediation Centre, Rengarajoo has mediated over 200 disputes across various schemes, including SMC, SCCDR, the Law Society Mediation Scheme, and the Consumers Association of Singapore. He has maintained an impressive approx. 80% settlement success rate.
Rengarajoo has also undergone extensive mediation training, including the European Mediation Training for Practitioners of Justice (EMTPJ) in 2010 at Warwick University—the first EU-approved 90-hour programme of its kind. He was the sole Asian participant, and his certification is recognised by 17 mediation centres across Europe, including the CIArb.
His longstanding commitment to public service was recognised in a Singapore Judiciary media release titled “Court volunteers honoured for outstanding contribution to the judiciary”, which described him as:
“A versatile and highly competent Court Volunteer Mediator adept at mediating both civil and criminal cases. Having joined the State Courts panel of volunteer mediators since 2010, Rengarajoo has shown utmost commitment and determination in mediating cases assigned to him.”
Rengarajoo is also dedicated to legal education. Since 2012, he has been a member of the CIArb’s teaching faculty.
